I started my journey into specialty coffee in 2017 whenever my mom opened The Coffee Shelter in Ketchum, Oklahoma. I started out just wanting a job to have during high school, but I quickly fell in love with the complexity that a simple cup of coffee can have. Everything from the scientific aspects of coffee and understanding how to make it taste good, to the way that it brings people together and keeps all of our days starting consistently and deliciously. I was always fascinated with the roasting aspect, as it seemed to be this strange alchemy that connected the farmer to the consumer by unlocking the flavor that was grown within these magical little seeds called beans.
I started my second expedition into coffee purely out of boredom and exploration whilst confined to the inside of my house in April of 2020. I started ordering small amounts of green coffee online and cooking them in a cast iron skillet, then in a flour sifter, then later in a stovetop popcorn maker. I discovered that I loved roasting coffee and giving it to my friends to try, and I felt like I needed to share these beans with everyone. So birthed out of my kitchen and a love of coffee and all of you, I started Keagan’s Coffee in September of 2020.
